About the course
Image's Post-abortion/Child loss course is designed to equip those wanting to facilitate image's Step by Step Programme with clients (in particular, Christian pregnancy centre workers and others in relevant pastoral or professional roles). The Step by Step programme is for use with clients following abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, child loss or child separation, where the loss is not immediate (i.e. it was at least 3-6 months ago). The training takes trainees on their own journey through the ten steps of the Step by Step Programme. Please note that in order to do this course, you must first have completed our Pregnancy Counselling Skills course or the equivalent.
Online - Course Structure
There are four modules which run at monthly intervals..
Each of these modules can be broken down into three sections:
- Home learning - 2 hours (completed BEFORE each module) Total 10 hours
- Zoom learning - 5.5 hours per module (usually Friday evening and Saturday morning) which includes tutor groups, presentation and skills work in trios Total 22 hours
- Personal study - 7 hours (completed AFTER each module). This involves writing three assignments, reading at least two books and journaling. Total 28 hours
Course Qualification
The course is recognised by Open Awards at levels 2 and 3 as a 60-hour course (6 unit credits) in image's counselling skills (Post-abortion and Child Loss). Image is also a training member of the Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions (since 2001) and a recognised centre for Open Awards (since 2000). We are quality reviewed by Open Awards each year and the course runs with our own Authorised Internal Verifiers (AIVs).
Course Tutors
The course is run by a team of tutors and each learner will be in a tutor group where they will be able to receive regular help and feedback. Any comments about the course can be fed back through the tutors.
Please note that completing the Step by Step training does not automatically qualify you to work in a pregnancy centre. Volunteering is subject to the policies and procedures of individual centres.

Venue
You will need to have a suitable device to access the course via Zoom. This could be a desktop computer, a laptop or a tablet. A mobile phone is not suitable.
