Image was started in Manchester in 1990 out of a heart of compassion for those facing difficult pregnancy decisions and for those struggling after an abortion or other baby loss. As a Christian charity, we believe in the value of every person, from the earliest stages of life onward, and our work is grounded in the values of compassion, dignity and acceptance. We offer support to all, regardless of faith, background, race, age or sex, without judgment.
We are based in Hulme, Manchester and are a charity that not only serves the local community, but has a national reach through our client support work and training courses.
We are partnered with and participate in the national Pregnancy Crisis Helpline supporting clients who are faced with a pregnancy crisis or an abortion loss. Between 2004 and 2025, Image provided support to thousands of clients through our own well-established 'Pregnancy Helpline'. In 2025 we merged our own helpline with Pregnancy Crisis Helpline, in order to pool resources, alongside other pregnancy resource centres, to help establish a national helpline with a wider client reach. Image provides trained helpers on this helpline as well as essential training for helpers.
As well as our management team, we have a group of dedicated volunteer helpers who are all trained in pregnancy crisis support. Most of our helpers are additionally trained in pregnancy and baby loss support. All our helpers receive regular supervision and ongoing training. Our supervisors are qualified counsellors and provide both 1-1 as well as group supervision. Our board of Trustees, a finance team and an administrator all help with the daily running of image.
We work with a Code of Ethics (available on request) and have a Complaints Procedure.
At image, safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Our staff and volunteers are trained to recognise risks, and we follow thorough safer recruitment procedures, including DBS checks. We safeguard with Thirtyone:eight to ensure our safeguarding procedures meet the highest standards.
We do not offer medical advice or refer for abortion.
