Birmingham - Training Trainers Course

Birmingham - Training Traners Course Information:

About the Course

Image's Training Trainers course is designed to equip those wanting to run image's 60-hour course in Christian Pregnancy Counselling Skills in their own region. The 60-hour course is recognised by Open Awards at levels 2 and 3 (providing 6 units of credit) and also by the Association of Christian Counsellors as a Pastoral Care with Counselling Skills Course. Image has been running the course with dual recognition for 15 years and has its own Authorised Internal Verifiers.

Applicants for the Training Trainers course are required to be Christians who are passionate about this area of work, have experience in supporting pregnancy and post-abortion clients and have some previous experience in training others. Obviously, having successfully completed the 60 hour course would be a major advantage, but we recognise that some people will not have had the opportunity to do this.

Please note that completing the Training Trainers course does not in itself constitute a commitment to becoming an image trainer - you have the right to decline at any point. Image also reserves the right to decline trainer status to anyone completing the course if, for whatever reason, it is deemed inappropriate. Two referees (one of whom must be a church leader) are required to confirm an application to become a trainer.

About Training Trainers

Training Trainers is a three day course covering 20 hours of learning. The course has four key elements: the first concerns the essential building blocks needed to run an image course; the second majors on the content of the 60-hour course with an emphasis on skills practice; the third concerns the assessment processes intrinsic to the course, and the fourth provides opportunity to reflect and review what has been learnt.

Since much of the learning is through practical activities, there will be no more than 12 learners on any Training Trainers course and each learner will have the support of one of the experienced image tutors with whom they can discuss any issues that arise and who will provide both ongoing and final feedback.

Pre-course preparation

Training Trainers does not teach people how to teach but rather focuses on providing each learner with opportunities to tailor their teaching skills to the image course. In order to do this there is some pre-course preparation. Each learner is asked to prepare at least three parts of the Pregnancy Counselling Skills course before they arrive using the given sections from the image manual. If you don't have a copy of the image's Christian Pregnancy Counselling Skills training manual,* it can be purchased for £25 from the image office (this includes P&P). The trainer notes and PowerPoint that you will also need to help you prepare will be provided by e-mail. Only print out what you need for your presentations because the trainer manual you will receive on the course contains them in full. We will seek to give you these tasks around a month before the course begins. The tasks will reflect some different types of interactions that are intrinsic to the course, eg presentation, facilitating group work, explaining assessment work. NB You are not required to do your own research nor prepare your own material.

*The manual was fully revised in Dec 2014 so if you have an old copy it can be replaced for £10.
