Thousands march for life in London
15 May 2019
Around 5000 people gathered in London on Saturday 11th May for the 2019 March for Life UK.
The theme for this year's event was "Irreplaceable". Organiser Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, said that the theme reminds us "that each human being from the moment of his or her conception is a unique individual that cannot be replaced by any other human being". (As quoted by SPUC)
On Saturday morning, many of the participants visited the LifeFest, a morning of talks, workshops, films, and showcasing of pro life initiatives around the country at two locations in Westminster - The Emmanuel Centre and Westminster Church House.
Keynote speakers for the day included Melissa Ohden, who survived a saline abortion at 7 months gestation and Jeff and Jennifer Christie, who shared their powerful story of choosing life following Jennifer's brutal rape.
The March, which took place in the afternoon, ended at Parliament Square where the final rally took place. Speaking at the rally, Obianuju Ekeocha, the president of Culture of Life Africa, said "I am here to lament about the human rights issue of our time.....Abortion in this country has been legal now for more than 50 years and has taken the lives of more than nine million people......We are all gathered here today in this special venue because we have come to raise our voices to this parliament, because this parliament has it wrong."
