New York passes extreme abortion bill

22 Jan 2019

On 22nd January, the anniversary of Roe v Wade, New York passed the most extreme abortion bill in the USA allowing abortions up to birth for any reason.

The bill declares that “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion”. It removes the state’s acknowledgement of unborn babies older than 24 weeks as potential homicide victims. Moreover, it completely removes abortion from the criminal code and allows health providers other than qualified doctors to perform abortions. (As quoted by Life Site News)

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who called the passing of the bill a “historic victory for New Yorkers and our progressive values”, ordered that that the spire of the World Trade Centre be lit up pink on Tuesday to celebrate the signing of the law. (As quoted by Life Site News)

Lila Rose, President of Live Action, commented saying “New York leadership cheers today for the legalization of killing a baby old enough to born - poisoning a 6-month-old to death in the womb and delivering her in pieces. This is the legacy of Roe v. Wade. It's time to end this barbarism”. (As quoted by Life Site News)

Dr Omar L Hamada, an OB/GYN, spoke out on Fox News saying: “That’s actually sick that we’re celebrating the death of infants – of babies that could live outside of the womb right then. In fact, at the base of the World Trade Center…there is a memorial to 9/11 in which is listed the names of the victims and also the fetuses. I think there were four or six fetuses that were killed, and they list those as victims. And now they’re celebrating that they’re able to take the lives of those…..There’s absolutely no reason to kill a baby before delivery in the third trimester. Not a fetal or maternal indication – what we say in medicine. If there’s a problem, and there are problems in the third trimester, both with the babies and with the mom that require delivery, just deliver the baby. We don’t have to kill it." In his State of the Union speech on 6th February President Donald Trump blasted the bill saying:

"There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days.  Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments before birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.  And then, we had the case of the Governor of Virginia where he basically stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother's womb. Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.  And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth:  all children -- born and unborn -- are made in the holy image of God." (

Ann Furedi, CEO of BPAS, praised the New York bill saying: “This is pretty much what the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, and other pro-choice organisations that are supporting the #WeTrustWomen campaign, have been asking British politicians to support." (As quoted by SPUC)
