Precious Families is a family support group for parents with pre-school children needing help, advice and support with parenting.

Precious Families is a weekly, two hour session, which includes a craft activity for parents and children, snack time, a ‘parent slot’ (see opposite) and singing/storytime.

Precious Families aims to:

• strengthen family relationships

• increase awareness and responsibility for child safety

• increase parenting skills and knowledge

• improve emotional well being of parents and children

• create a place of safety and belonging

Parents at Precious Families are listened to without judgement and accepted as individuals. Children are able to take part in new activities in a safe and secure environment. During whole group activities, Precious Families provides opportunities for building friendships and interaction between parents and children.

The ‘parent slot’ currently includes a certificated 10-step programme on safeguarding children, which covers these sessions:

children’s needs,

who abuses children?,

what is child abuse?,

child abuse and culture,

alternatives to physical punishment,

safeguarding children: the law,

obstacles to keeping children safe,

safeguarding children in our community,

roles and responsibilities,

sources of support.

 • donate baby goods   (eg. toys, baby wipes,     clothes,    equipment, etc)
