Euthanasia for Belgian children one step closer to being permitted.
In a vote on 26th November, the Belgian Senate voted 50-17 in favour of allowing children the right to seek euthanasia. The proposal will now go the House of Representatives for further discussion and vote and if it passes this stage, Belgium will become the first country to introduce euthanasia for minors. Originally reported in the Independent, there is to be no set age limit – children would have to submit a request in writing, with the support of their parent or guardian. Again, Belgium shows itself to be the leader when it comes to relaxation and trivialisation of end of life matters.
